Are You Sarah's Daughter?

By Angela Willigham

I just finished re-reading TD Jakes book "Woman Thou Art Loosed".  I am sure like many of you I read it many years ago.  I was not in the place then that I am today, so it did not have the same impact.  How many know that depending on where we are in our walk different things affect us differently?  You might believe that you have been healed of everything but new experiences bring about new revelation.  As I read it this time from a different place in my spiritual growth, I saw some new things.  One of the things that stuck out for me was when he kept saying you are Sarah's daughter if.....  I had to ask myself if I am Sarah's daughter.

Sarah was a woman of faith.  We see that as she is one of those mentioned as a hero of faith in Hebrews Chapter 11.

Hebrews 11:11-12:

11 -12By faith, barren Sarah was able to become pregnant, old woman as she was at the time, because she believed the One who made a promise would do what he said. That's how it happened that from one man's dead and shriveled loins there are now people numbering into the millions.

She laughed when God first told her that she would have a baby in her old age.  She took matters into her own hands to secure an heir for Abraham.  Yes, Sarah was much like many of us, but she is still listed among the heroes of faith.  Jakes reminded me that her husband denied that she was his wife in order to save his life, not just once but multiple times.  Giving her over to the king, because he thought if he told the truth they would kill him to have her.  You never see any where in the word where her attitude toward him changed or was affected in a negative way because of his failure to protect or provide for her in that situation.  She had to be afraid, but her trust was not in her husband, but in God.  During our life group several weeks ago we talked about Trusting Without Doubting.  We determined that the only one we can trust and never doubt is God.  People will always disappoint, but God always keeps His promises.

Sarah laughed initially because she knew the facts and I believe that many of us have laughed because what we could see did not match what we believed God was telling us.  Nothing added up, but the truth is that with God 1 and 1 have never equalled 2.  The math they teach in school is not God's math.  One plus God can add up to whatever He wants it to, because He is God and nothing is impossible with Him.  What am I saying?  I am saying that if you connect your faith to God's promise, it does not matter what the situation, it does not matter what the obstacle or opportunity, your faith plus God's promise will always equal the promise He made coming to pass.

If you are Sarah's daughter you will stand in faith, no matter what the situation, no matter who laughs at you, because you know in the end, you will be laughing with God and even your doubters will have to join you in laughing, because what they thought looked impossible has become possible because of the winning majority vote-God!

When your situation looks impossible don't forget the God factor.  He is not obligated to stuff you come up with on your own, but He is obligated to fulfill the promises that He has made to you as His daughter (or His son).  History has shown us over and over and over again that He keeps His promises.  Luke 1:37:  37 For nothing is impossible with God.[a]

It might help to know that the situation you are in, is no surprise to God.  He knew you would be in that place.  Jeremiah 29:11 talks about the plan of God for your life, but if you scroll back one verse you will  see that He predicted what would happen.  None of it is a surprise to God.  You just have to have the faith to wait it out, to work it out, to walk it out, to love it out, to pray it out, to bless it out, to praise it out and to worship it out.  Realizing that even as you are going through He is building you up in your character and in your faith.  When you get through this the little junk that use to bother you won't bother you any more.  The old issues that use to drive you crazy will not drive you crazy any more.  God is refining you and your faith during the time, but it will only happen as you move along with and stop fighting Him.

Jeremiah 29:10-11, says, This is what the LORD says: “You will be in Babylon for seventy years. But then I will come and do for you all the good things I have promised, and I will bring you home again. For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

God knew that Sarah would be barren, but He had a plan for her life.  God knew people would mistreat and would reject you, but He has a plan for your life and there is nothing they can do to stop it if you are Sarah's daughter.  Move in Faith, believe and trust God.  Be obedient to what He tells you to do without doubting.  Comfortable?  No.  Easy?  No.  Do it anyway!!!!
