New Beginnings is a fitness ministry established in 2003 to offer a holistic approach to fitness that includes mind, body and spirit. A fitness ministry also serves to help people help themselves through physical and spiritual exercise. At New Beginnings we believe good health is a gift from God and can be obtained by following biblical principles as we lead a balanced life physically, mentally, spiritually and relationally.

What’s New?

June Feature Article-Exercise Is 4 Everybody!
By Angela Willingham

When you look in the mirror do you see a perfectly fit body or do you see one that is need of work? As we prepared to go to Prescott to do a physical fitness workshop for one of our sister churches, I must admit I found myself asking God, what qualifies me to tell other people about being fit. God opened my eyes to a revelation that our founder had been trying to share with me for many years.

It is not about what your body looks like or what size you are. He has repeatedly told me that there are individuals that are size two that cannot walk up a flight of stairs without huffing and puffing while others that are size 20 or above go up and down stairs all day long with no problem. It is not about the size. It is really about how healthy you are.

Well the new thought process I learned in preparing for the workshop was not about size, it was not even about how much exercise we do or how often we do it. The revelation God gave me was that exercise is 4 everybody. We each have to determine which one works best for us.

Do you like to walk and if you do, do you like to walk inside or outside? I have one friend who hates to walk inside and another that hates to walk outside, but they both agree that walking is excellent exercise.

Do you like to work out in the gym or are you intimidated by all the toned bodies because yours is not where it should be? Maybe should is the wrong word. Maybe your body is not where you would like for it to be or where you think God wants it.

Maybe there is an activity that you enjoy like skating, bicycling, jogging or running.

Maybe you like playing basketball, baseball or soccer.

Maybe the best you can do is working out from a chair, because your legs are not strong.

Maybe you like hiking.

Maybe you like dancing or swimming.

Whichever activity you enjoy, remember that exercise is 4 everybody. You just have to identify the one that works best for you. Don’t try to do what pleases everybody else or you will become frustrated. What works for them may not work for you.

What kind of exercise do you enjoy, well maybe enjoy is the wrong word, what do you do? What can you do? What I learned in preparing for the workshop is exercise is for everybody, whether that includes going to the gym, working out at home in a chair in front of the TV, using an in home walking video or some other workout video. You get to decide what works for you but we want to challenge you to do something. Get up and start moving around. Shock your body awake and get your metabolism moving.

Try out some different things until you find the one that works for you. You may not enjoy it but you know it works because you can see the results in increased stamina, more energy, ability to do more physically, sleeping better or increased self-esteem. Yes, getting your physical body moving will increase your self-esteem. Try it and let us know how it works for you.

New Beginnings Team News-
team1
The New Beginnings Team had the opportunity to share related to physical fitness with Family of Faith Christian Church, of Phoenix, AZ, where Pastor Glenn Dennard is the Senior Pastor, for their 3rd Annual Women’s Retreat on Saturday, May 3, 2008. Minister Angela taught a short lesson on nutrition and then she and Minister Joshlyn Barnett and Minister Kimberley McNeil lead in a short workout session. The workout session included a short exercise segment for the ladies showing exercises that anyone could do from the Electric Slide, walking to an in-home walking video by Leslie Sansone, to toning exercises that could be done from the floor, a chair or standing up. The New Beginnings motto is that exercise is 4 everybody, so they worked with the women to ensure that they could identify exercises that were appropriate to different body shapes, sizes and conditions.

team2 Check the New Beginnings Home page for a link to additional pictures and video clips www.mynewtemple.org. Contact Minister Sharise Jones for additional information regarding the Family of Faith Christian Church of Phoenix, AZ at familyoffaithchristianchurch@yahoo.com, they are a church that believes in being fit from the inside out.

The New Beginnings Team really enjoyed their time with the ladies from the Family of Faith. Please keep the ladies in your prayers as they continue to work to become holistically fit.

What Have You Been Reading?

Many of you have read some awesome books that have really ministered to you, spiritually, emotionally, relationally or physically. Let us know what you have been reading by writing to us on the message board. Your recommendations might help someone else.

The Ministries’ Monthly Book Recommendation-From The New Beginnings Team
The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman

The back of the book cover says:
Are You and Your Spouse Speaking The Same Language?

Lately we have been hearing more and more about couples that are breaking up after years of marriage or even getting divorces after being married for a very short time. As part of our clergy training our pastor advised us to read two books, The Five Love Languages and His Needs, Her Needs. God has given this ministry a real burden for relationships. As you know we are dealing with holistic fitness mind, body and spirit. As part of that we include, spiritual, physical, relational and emotional fitness. This book deals with relationships, while the primary relationship is marriage, we believe the same principles can be used in all of our relationships.

Gary Chapman identifies five specific languages, Quality Time, Words of Affirmation, Gifts, Acts of Service and Physical Touch. We recommend that you read the book to find out what your love language is and also to find out the love languages of your spouse and those that you love. Many of our relationships would be better if we loved those people the way they need to be loved instead of loving them the way we want or need to be loved. We thought this book was a blessing and will be using it as part of our couples counseling. Check it out and let us know what you think.

The book challenged me reassess some of my previous relationships and identify what I could have done differently to change the outcome. I was convicted and know that this will be for the good of my future and also the futures of those I counsel. I want and desire a marriage that will impact the kingdom as my mate and I work to build marriages and transparently share the things that we have been through and how God brought us through. Use it to evaluate your relationships today. This could help you make them better. I have been sharing what I have learned already. Enemy beware!

We would love to hear from you. What have you been reading? Let us know by writing to us on the message board http://mynewtemple.org/aMessages.html or sending us a message at contactus@mynewtemple.org.

New Beginnings Scripture for June 2008

Psalm 139:13-16:
13 -16 Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother's womb. I thank you, High God—you're breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration—what a creation! You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you, the days of my life all prepared before I'd even lived one day.

Our Mission Statement

Our Mission is to draw individuals to Jesus Christ through the Ministry of Holistic Fitness and to see the Body of Christ become fit in all areas by providing tools and information to empower you to succeed. New Beginnings is dedicated to helping you gain personal, spiritual, physical, mental and relational fitness by developing the courage and confidence necessary to set and achieve goals based on biblical principles. Most people encounter difficulty reaching goals, sticking with a diet or completing a task by trying to make an outward change without having made any inward spiritual changes. In other words, all improvements in your life begin with a change in your mind and spirit.
