We welcome your suggestions and ideas, so please let us know if there is anything we can do to make your experience with the monthly newsletter, website, weekly messages or message board more beneficial. We can be contacted at contactus@mynewtemple.org. It is our prayer to bring you words of encouragement and inspiration to motivate you to become fit physically, emotionally, spiritually and relationally. This is your New Beginning and we want to make it an awesome experience for you. As you begin this new adventure we are praying for you.

Who are we?
New Beginnings is a fitness ministry established in 2003 to offer a holistic approach to fitness that includes mind, body and spirit. A fitness ministry also serves to help people help themselves through physical and spiritual exercise. At New Beginnings we believe good health is a gift from God and can be obtained by following biblical principles as we lead a balanced life physically, mentally, spiritually and relationally.

What’s New?

March 2008 Feature Article-Emotional Eating
By Angela Willingham

Have you ever found yourself eating for no reason? You weren’t hungry, it was not meal or snack time.  If you are honest you just finished dinner, but there is something in you that is unsatisfied. If you find yourself in this place again, I want you to take the time to assess your situation. Take the time to try to figure out what is really going on. Why are you eating?

You can eat and eat and eat and never resolve the issue if you don’t first determine what the issue is. That cake, cookies, pie or chips will taste good or maybe you won’t taste them at all because all you are really doing is eating to make yourself feel better.

I was studying a course on emotional eating and the instructor said, you will never be satisfied by eating you will never eat enough, to make the pain go away, you have to find the root of the problem. Why are you eating? The next time you find yourself sitting and eating when you know that you are not hungry, we want to encourage you to take a minute to assess your feelings.

Do you feel pain, are you upset about something, did someone hurt you or say something that was offensive?  Are you dealing with some feelings that you are stuffing down or are there some things you need to deal with that you have chosen to avoid? Whatever the situation, know that it will not go away and the food will not make it better contrary to whatever you may have been taught. You will have to deal with the issue.  Be aware of the little voice that tells you that the food will make you feel better, because food is like drugs or alcohol, whatever pain it alleviates is only temporary. When the food or drug wears off the pain and the issue will still be there.

This month deal with the issue. Talk it out, not with everyone, but with the person that you should be talking to or to a good Christian counselor. Don’t be fooled into thinking that you can keep covering it up, because whatever is hidden will be exposed. Closet eating will be exposed in weight and bigger sizes. Closet emotions will be exposed in insecurity and eventually when you can no longer control it there will be an emotional outburst or melt down. Deal with the emotions. Deal with the relationships. Deal with the pain. Deal with your issues before they deal with you.

2008 Physical Fitness Focus-
New Beginnings is Promoting 10,000 Steps Per Day Walking for Health in 2008
. Ways To Reach My Goal!

Check out the 2008 Workout recommendation on the website www.mynewtemple.org.

New Beginnings 2008 Workout Focus
10,000/steps per day or 70,000/steps per week Walking Program*

This is the fitness opportunity that New Beginnings is promoting for 2008.  It is simple and easy and almost everyone can participate at whatever level of fitness they are at.  There is no great trick to walking. It does not require any special skills, advanced conditioning, special equipment or clothing. All you need is a good pair of walking shoes, comfortable clothing, a pedometer, and you're all set.

Why Walk?

  • Burns almost as many calories as jogging
  • Eases back pain
  • Slims your waist
  • Reduces heart attack risk
  • Slows down osteoporosis bone loss

If you are having problems reaching your 10000 step goal try one or more of the following:

  • Recruit some walking partners
  • Use a walking video to increase your motivation
  • Use your pedometer as a motivator.  The closer you get to your number of steps the more encouraged you will be to finish it.
  • Make it a competition among you and your friends

Monthly Fitness Tips-

Here are a few tips to help you reach your fitness goals:

  • Cut Back on Your Portion Sizes.
  • Increase your intake of fruits and vegetables.
  • Plan your meals.
  • Exercise regularly.  Exercise is important to maintain good health. We encourage you to join us in the years 10,000 steps per day walking for health program. We do not expect you to start out with 10,000 steps. Start where you are and do what you can. Remember this is about progression, not perfection. Just keep trying.

As always we encourage you to see a physician before beginning any exercise program.  Take the first step by getting up and doing something to take care of your most valuable resource, Your Health.

New Beginnings Team News-

Congratulations to Angela our CEO. She has completed her second Counseling Certification from the American Association of Christian Counselors in their Breaking Free Curriculum. Please keep her in your prayers because she has 2 more certifications to complete before she receives her diploma. Pray that she stay focused.

Minister Kimberley McNeil has enrolled in courses and will be completing her counseling degree.

God is beginning to open new doors for the New Beginnings Ministry in collaboration with other ministries. Please be in prayer of thanksgiving with us to God for these new opportunities and also in prayer that God give New Beginnings leadership clear direction as it relates to His direction for this ministry. Pray that all of our steps be ordered by the Lord.

What Have You Been Reading?

Many of you have read some awesome books that have really ministered to you, spiritually, emotionally, relationally or physically. Let us know what you have been reading by writing to us on the message board. Your recommendations might help someone else.

The Ministries’ Monthly Book Recommendation-From The New Beginnings Team
The Battlefield of The Mind by Joyce Meyers

The back cover of the book says, “There is a war going on and your mind is the battlefield.” Have you ever found yourself thinking some crazy thoughts about someone or doubting something that you know came from God? If you have don’t be surprised the enemy is doing his job, trying to get us off track. Joyce Meyers in this book does an outstanding job of helping us to identify and defeat the enemy in his tracks. When you know the game it is much easier to play. If you have found yourself in this struggle we encourage you to read this book. If you are anything like us you may have to read it a few times.

We would love to hear from you. What have you been reading? Let us know by writing to us on the message board http://mynewtemple.org/aMessages.html or sending us a message at contactus@mynewtemple.org.

In an effort to honor her grandmother who passed away on January 11, 2008, Angela has decided to create a quilt. If you would like to submit a picture and brief tribute on behalf of a woman that meant something to you and helped you get to where you are today send it to us at contactus@womensfaithstories.com.  Include their birth date and date of death.  Maybe it was your grandmother, a school teacher or a female family member. It does not matter who she was, we would just like to take this opportunity to honor them. Check out last month’s newsletter for more information.

New Beginnings Scripture for March 2008

Isaiah 43:19:
19 See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert
       and streams in the wasteland.

Our Mission Statement

Our Mission is to draw individuals to Jesus Christ through the Ministry of Holistic Fitness and to see the Body of Christ become fit in all areas by providing tools and information to empower you to succeed. New Beginnings is dedicated to helping you gain personal, spiritual, physical, mental and relational fitness by developing the courage and confidence necessary to set and achieve goals based on biblical principles. Most people encounter difficulty reaching goals, sticking with a diet or completing a task by trying to make an outward change without having made any inward spiritual changes. In other words, all improvements in your life begin with a change in your mind and spirit.
